I was listening to NBC Nightly News recently and it was towards the end of the show during the segment "Making a Difference" that really caught my attention. The town was Grafton, Wisconsin and the whole town rallied around a single mom who has been diagnosed with cancer and her twins that have been diagnosed with some form of spinal atrophy disease that will confine them to a wheel chair for the rest of their lives. The town rallied and raised the money and the volunteer labor to make her home wheel chair accessible, something that she couldn't do being a single mom dealing with cancer on top of the kids.
This seems to be a truer display of the new testament church than any church that I have seen currently. And this was not even a "church" effort, this was done by a caring community trying to uplift one of there own during these trying economic times. Definitely a lesson there for today's church. We are not a social club, we're not a fashion show, and it's not a contest to see who can get the most members, the most funds or the biggest building. The church should represent and be the example for the community. Reaching out to a member of the community when they are in need and even when they are not in need. What has your church done lately for those around them, and for that matter what have you done for your community as well. It only takes one person to change the world, will you be that one?
But that's just my opinion...what's yours?
